I have found that the JT-2G Wood / Firewood Moisture Meter works very well in determining whether my firewood is ready to burn or not. A neighbor and I did a little test yesterday. First, I took a well seasoned kiln dried dowl that has been in my basement (which is very dry) for years and checked it with the meter. It gave a reading of zero which is exactly what I thought it should measure. According to the information associated with the product wood that is ready to burn should have a reading no higher than 20. Next we measured a piece of wood that looked like it was ready to burn but that was of a batch that had proven not to be ready. The measurement was well above 20 confirming that the wood was too moist. We then measure a piece of wood (locust) that had been under a top cover with air flow available on the sides that my neighbor thought was very dry as it had been cut and stacked two or more years ago (but, in a place with poor air flow and no sun). It turned out to measure 19 (good enough to burn) but not nearly as dry as was thought. Some dead locust that had been cut and stacked uncovered this spring in the sun with excellent air flow proved to be drier still per the JT-2G.br /br /Being new to burning wood as the prime source of heat for the house the device certainly helps me make decisions about what not to burn to avoid excess creosote build up. Conversely, it has helped me to determine that some wood I thought was not ready to burn is in fact ready to burn.br /br /Would I buy the device again? You bet! My neighbor who has been burning wood for heat for years is now in the market for one as well.

I bought this moisture meter to be sure my firewood was fully seasoned. Works great and gives values almost identical to a friends expensive test unit. Simple to use, quick readout, and fast shipping!
